GPX to Video Overlay Online — No Install Required
Add live GPS gauges to your video using a GPX file — entirely online, no software to install. Works on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Free, no watermark, no account needed.
Most GPS video overlay tools require a software download — a Windows installer, a Mac app, sometimes a USB dongle for license verification. If you don't want to install anything, or you're on a computer where you can't install software, a browser-based solution is the practical answer.
Here's how to create a GPX video overlay entirely online, with no install and no account.
Why Use an Online GPS Overlay Tool?
- No install: Works on any computer — office machine, borrowed laptop, school computer
- No OS restrictions: Same tool works on Windows, Mac, and Linux
- No updates: Always the latest version when you open the URL
- No storage: Nothing saved to your hard drive
- Privacy: Files stay in your browser — nothing uploaded to a server
The Tool: Stamptivity Overlay
stamptivity.app/overlay — Free, browser-based, no account
Open the URL in any desktop browser and you're ready. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari all work. No plugin, no extension.
What it does:
- Accepts GPX and FIT files from any GPS device or tracking platform
- Loads your video file locally (never uploaded to a server)
- Lets you add speed, heart rate, elevation, cadence, moving map, and elevation chart gauges
- Drag gauges to any position on the video frame
- Time offset slider to sync GPS data to your video
- Exports as MP4 at full resolution — no watermark
Step-by-Step: GPX to Video Overlay Online
Step 1: Get Your GPX File
Export from wherever your GPS data lives:
| Platform | How to export GPX |
|---|---|
| Strava | Open activity → ⋯ → Export GPX |
| Garmin Connect | Open activity → ⚙ → Export to GPX |
| Wahoo | Via Wahoo web app or this guide |
| Komoot | Open tour → Download → GPX |
| Apple Watch | Via HealthFit or WorkOutDoors app → guide |
| Coros | Coros app → activity → share → GPX |
| Polar | Polar Flow app → export GPX |
If you have a FIT file instead of GPX (common with Garmin), you can load it directly — no conversion needed.
Step 2: Open Stamptivity Overlay
Go to stamptivity.app/overlay in your desktop browser. Nothing to install.
Step 3: Load Your Video
Drop your video file (MP4) into the video panel, or click to browse. The video plays in the browser — it never leaves your computer.
Step 4: Load Your GPX File
Drop the GPX (or FIT) file into the GPS panel. Data loads immediately:
- Speed channel → speed gauge
- Heart rate → HR gauge (if recorded in your GPX)
- GPS coordinates → map
- Elevation → elevation gauge and chart
Step 5: Add Gauges
Click any gauge in the sidebar to add it to the canvas. Gauges available:
- Speed — current speed, multiple display styles
- Heart Rate — from your GPS device's HRM
- Elevation — current altitude or gain
- Cadence — if recorded
- Map — live route trace with position dot
- Elevation Chart — sparkline showing the full climb/descent profile
Drag each gauge to wherever you want it on the video frame.
Step 6: Sync GPS to Video
The GPS file and the video were recorded at different times. Press play, find a moment you can clearly identify — the moment you start moving, pass a known landmark, or reach a junction. Drag the time offset slider until the speed reading and map dot match what you see on screen.
Most sessions sync within 5–10 seconds of adjustment.
Step 7: Export
Click Export. The browser renders the video with all gauges burned in. The download is a standard MP4 — ready for YouTube, Instagram, or any video platform.
No watermark. Full resolution. Free.
What Data Does My GPX Contain?
GPX files can carry different data depending on the source:
| Data | Standard GPX | FIT (Garmin) |
|---|---|---|
| GPS coordinates | ✓ | ✓ |
| Elevation | ✓ | ✓ |
| Speed | Calculated from GPS | ✓ (sensor) |
| Heart rate | Sometimes | ✓ |
| Cadence | Rarely | ✓ |
| Power | ✗ | ✓ |
For the richest overlay (heart rate, cadence, power), use a FIT file from Garmin Connect ("Export Original") rather than a GPX export. Stamptivity accepts FIT files directly — no conversion needed.
Other Online GPS Overlay Tools
GpxOverlay (gpxoverlay.com) — Browser-based, 29+ gauge types, free tier has watermark and resolution limit, paid plans from ~€4/month.
Stamptivity Overlay is the only fully free browser-based option with no watermark, no resolution limit, and no account required.
Tips
- Speed vs. FIT for heart rate: Most GPX exports from Strava drop heart rate. For HR in your overlay, use a FIT file from Garmin Connect ("Export Original") or export from your device directly.
- Large video files: The browser handles files up to several GB, but a faster machine and modern browser (Chrome 120+) give smoother scrubbing on longer clips.
- Multiple gauges: Adding too many gauges makes the overlay hard to read. Three or four well-placed gauges work better than eight small ones.
- For stats photos (not video): Use Stamptivity Stamp with the same GPX file to create a shareable activity stats image.
