How to Export GPX from Polar Flow
A step-by-step guide to downloading your Polar activity as a GPX file from Polar Flow, ready for stats photos, video overlays, and more.
Polar watches and heart rate monitors are known for their accuracy, particularly for heart rate data. Every outdoor activity recorded by a Polar device syncs to Polar Flow, where you can export it as a GPX file — with GPS coordinates, heart rate, and speed included.
What You'll Need
- A Polar account and device (Polar Vantage, Ignite, Grit X, Pacer, or any GPS watch)
- A desktop browser (Polar Flow's export option is easier on desktop)
Step-by-Step: Export GPX from Polar Flow
1. Open Polar Flow
Go to flow.polar.com and sign in with your Polar account.
2. Open the Activity
Click Training in the top navigation, then Training log. Find and click on the activity you want to export.
3. Export the GPX
On the activity detail page:
- Click the three-dot menu (⋯) or the export icon — it's usually in the top-right corner of the activity card
- Select Export session
- Choose GPX from the format options
- The file downloads to your device
The filename typically includes the date and activity type: 2025-05-01_Running.gpx.
What's Included in the Polar GPX Export?
| Data | Included |
|---|---|
| GPS coordinates (lat/lon/altitude) | ✓ |
| Timestamps | ✓ |
| Heart rate | ✓ (if recorded) |
| Speed | ✓ |
| Cadence | ✓ (running cadence if available) |
| Power | ✓ (if Polar power sensor was used) |
Polar's heart rate data is typically high quality, especially if recorded with a Polar H10 chest strap — the HR gauge in Stamptivity will show a clean, accurate trace.
Exporting from the Polar Flow Mobile App
The mobile app shows your activities and training history, but GPX export is only available in the web app (flow.polar.com). On mobile, you can share an activity summary image but not export the raw GPS file.
Using the GPX with Stamptivity
Once you have your .gpx file:
- Create a stats photo — Drop it into Stamptivity Stamp to overlay your distance, pace, elevation, and heart rate on a photo. Great for Instagram.
- Add gauges to a video — Load it in Stamptivity Overlay alongside your action camera footage to add live speed, HR, and map overlays.
- Compare with another workout — Use Stamptivity Compare to compare this session against a previous one on the same route.
Tips
- Polar H10 heart rate is among the most accurate chest strap HRMs available. If you recorded with a H10, the HR data in your Stamptivity overlay will be notably smoother than optical HR.
- If an activity doesn't appear in Training Log, check that your device synced via Bluetooth or the USB cable. Polar Flow only shows activities that have been synced.
- Indoor training sessions (treadmill, stationary bike) won't have GPS, so the route map widget won't be available — but distance, time, heart rate, and cadence will still export.
